Dr. Joshua Brooks (MChiro), DC has been passionate about health his whole life. His Father, Dr Graeme Brooks (also a Chiropractor) has had multiple clinics serving the residents of High Wycombe, Maidenhead, Marlow, Twyford, Wargrave, Henley-on-Thames and surrounding areas. Being a second generation Chiropractor, Joshua has had the privilege of receiving Chiropractic treatment since childhood and seeing the benefits first hand.
Joshua started his career in the Armed Forces and during his service participated in a variety of activities, including representing the Royal Corps of Signals in rugby, squash, and basketball, he also obtained his level 1 Squash coaching award. During his service, Joshua sustained a lower back injury when on a training exercise, with regular Chiropractic treatments his father was able to get him back to full fitness. After leaving the Military, Joshua began his training to become a Chiropractor.
The first step is getting booked in for an initial consultation, this is so we can ascertain if we believe we can help you and if so, then how we can help.
This will consist of taking a thorough medical history, conducting a physical examination including orthopaedic, neurological and biomechanical testing, and a full postural analysis using specialist software. This allows us to gather as much information as possible to provide you with our best recommendation on how to proceed.
Treatment will include a range of manipulative techniques (adjustments) which will be tailored to the patient based on age and condition. As these adjustments are performed you may hear an audible ‘click’ which is a normal part of the process and can often provide instant symptomatic relief.
This involves your chiropractor applying a manual thrust through specific joints in order to restore proper movement and alignment. This technique is a safe and effective way of relieving stiffness and pain.
This is a system of spinal evaluation combined with a handheld adjusting instrument that delivers a consistent, low-force thrust.
The Thompson technique involves the use of a specialised chiropractic table to restore movement in subluxated spinal segments.
For most people, care consists of 3 'phases'. There is a different focus in each phase, but the overall goal is to get you out of pain and remain that way long term. We do this by treating the root of the problem and then providing you with the means to manage it going forward. This is achieved with a combination of chiropractic care, lifestyle changes and targeted exercises to improve the stability of your spine (or area of complaint) and your posture. This provides you with a long term solution, and decreases the risk of any problems in the future.
Most people that come to us do so because they are in pain. Our primary goal is to relieve or reduce this pain as quickly as we can. The severity of your pain would usually determine the length of this stage. If you are not in pain then this stage is typically short and involves improving the function of your body, nervous system and joints as much as possible.
Once your body is functioning more efficiently, and you are more comfortable, we then focus on giving your body the best chance to heal and stay optimal long term. This means correcting the underlying root of the problem to stop pain from returning. This generally involves carrying out some stretching and strengthening exercises between sessions that you can do at home, we will always go through these with you so that you have the confidence to perform these correctly.
Once you are feeling better and your body is functioning more efficiently, maintenance or wellness care is important to keep you at your best and stay on top of any looming problems. At this stage, we can provide advice for the frequency of your visits based on what we have assessed through the Relief and Corrective care stages but ultimately, it is up to you how often you would like to visit for maintenance.
